How much time must have passed since the last examination?

Accepted Answer

Since your last health check, at least 365 days must have passed (note: this used to be 12 months regardless of the exact day; it is now exactly 365 days), otherwise the costs are not covered by social insurance. What counts is the examination date, the date on the pink examination form. Example: if your last health check was on 1 January 2024, you can have the next one from 2 January 2025. The date is noted on the pink examination form. If you no longer have it, you can ask your health insurance provider directly.

Who is entitled to the free health check?

In Austria the health check can be used once a year from the age of 18. The examination itself is free of charge and is billed to your health insurance provider.

May I drink anything before the blood sample?

It is important that you come to the blood sample fasting, as your blood values could otherwise be distorted. Water or unsweetened tea are fine, however.

Question 4

How do I hand in the stool and urine samples?

Accepted Answer

The urine sample is handed in directly at the blood sample appointment (it does not have to be the first urine of the morning).For the stool sample you receive an envelope with a test kit and detailed instructions at the blood sample appointment. Simply bring the sample to your examination appointment (you do not have to hand it in or send it beforehand). Please note only that the test runs over three days, so plan accordingly before your examination appointment.

How does billing with the health insurance provider work?

We bill the cost of the health check directly to your health insurance provider. You do not have to pay anything for the examination on site.
